24 week appointment

We had our appointment with my GP today.
She is so excited about our baby and it's always really lovely to go and visit her.
She tested my blood pressure : 123/82 - A little high but quite good for me. She explained the results of the blood tests I had at the hospital - they all are good, my kidneys are working perfectly, my sugars were perfect - only one thing was a little wacky, something to do with proteins *I think* but she decided to re-do the test for that one because it didn't make sense for that to be low when other things related to it were so good.

Then I was up on the bed for an examination of the baby. I pulled up my shirt and my doctor said, "Look at that beautiful uterus!!! Ooooh I get so excited after half way!!!!" Then she pulled out the doppler to have a listen to our little darling. We could hear lots of strange noises, with baby's heartbeat in the background - she laughed and told us that bubby was so busy in there and the doppler was picking up all the movement and it was louder than the heartbeat! It was all good though. I think it was around 145bpm.
Then she had a feel of my tummy and told us that bub is lying head down already! The bum is up near the top of my tummy (so Mum and Alexie, that is the bump we could feel the other day!). When she felt low in my tummy she could feel bubby's head and move it about. She got Pete to come over and feel it, and I loved looking at his face while he was feeling our baby. I'm not sure how much bubby liked it though cos when I got off the bed it went nutso for a while!

It was so exciting, I love knowing that everything is going well with our little honey!

I got sent for blood and pee tests again after that - urine to make sure that my bladder infection is totally gone and blood for making sure about that protein thing, plus double checking a hep B vaccine that seems to be missing from my last test, and I think as a precursor to the glucose test I have to take in a couple of weeks.

Oooh I'm so excited after this appointment - everything is going so well and Pete and I are SO happy!

Belly update...

24 weeks, 4 days.

I have popped out so much in the last week, I can notice a big change both in how I feel and how I look. Bubby is also seeming to do much bigger and harder movements, and seems to be much higher than before. My tummy is getting in the way more too, if I drop something on the floor in the car it has to stay there because I can't reach past my tummy! It's also a hassle when I'm washing up - I can't get close enough to the sink. Bugger huh, looks like Pete's going to have to do it all! lol. And I noticed that it's beginning to rub on the steering wheel already when I drive!

People are beginning to ask me if I'm due soon!!! Mum says it's because I'm so short bub's has got as high as it can so now I'm heading out.

I love my bump...

So Pretty

You know sometimes you take a photo and you can't believe you did that!!??

Our Holiday

We had a lovely couple of days at Hervey Bay. It has changed sooooo much since I was last there, but it was still a nice place to visit. I'm so amazed at how every beach town you go to has its own personality.

We had a really relaxing time - didn't do a whole lot. We walked up and down the 1km Jetty and watched the Tuna and Some other Big Fish that I have no idea what it's called chasing around the schools of little fish. There were LOTS of people fishing off the jetty and a few had caught some really big fishies. I liked watching people catch the little ones for bait - that's my kinda fishing, they were pretty much guaranteed at least one on their line every time they dropped it in! So what if you can't eat 'em. I decided that fishing would only be good for me if I had a spot on the jetty with a rod holder, and a folding chair and a good book. That way I woudn't have to pay attention until my line started jumping around ;)

We had a swim, and Pete flew his new kite, and we did lots of reading and lazing around. It was a nice relaxing time. And beautiful weather.

We stayed in a caravan park in an onsite cabin for only $65 a night! What a bargain. It could sleep up to 6, and had a kitchenette and a bathroom - everything you could need. I think we'll be back, maybe for a bit longer next time.

We've been in Noosa for about the last week, hanging out with the family and catching up with friends. We even got to have a visit with my Tante Christina (Papa's sister) and cousin Gab, who were over for a midwifery conference from Perth. We're back to Toowoomba today - not looking forward to the 3 hour non-air-conditioned car ride. Uni starts tomorrow - so much to do! But only 5 weeks until we're on holidays again so hopefully that goes as quickly as the last 5 weeks has!

Here are some holiday snaps:

Op-shopping and baby bits.

Yesterday, Pete and I spent the morning at the shops, paying off some of bubby's layby and looking around before going on a picnic to one of my favourite places, Ravensbourne National Park. On the way out though, I convinced Pete to stop at this mega-sized lifeline op-shop that I've been meaning to visit for about 18 months. It took a little bit of convincing, as my husband didn't have a childhood like mine, spent sifting through junk at op-shops finding those little gems that you would never find elsewhere. I patiently reminded him about all the items in our home which I collected years before I even knew him, that he just takes for granted.

Once in there, he was more excited than me! He headed straight to a rack of men's boardshorts. He had been whinging yesterday morning that his were all old and dying, and had looked at some in the shops earlier that were $30+ each! Well, after a bit of digging, he found three pairs of boardies in really good condition for a total of $10!!!!

I, in the meantime, poked around for a maternity section, but to no avail. I was hoping to find some kind of swimwear that will fit over my bump for our Hervey Bay getaway later this week. No such luck. I did, however, find a pair of genuine red Doc Martin's for $30 in my size!!!!! I tried them on, and Pete didn't approve. My dreams were shattered, I've always wanted a pair, but according to Pete, they really didn't look good. What would he know. Probably don't have $30 in my bank account anyway...

I won however, when I found a gorgeous pair of brown leather shoes that look as though they have never been worn! Seriously, the soles look completely brand new - not scuffed at all. And all for $4.00! Score! I then stumbled over a nice summery white top that I can get away with as a matternity top - $3.00! I also found a reallllllly cute pair of lime-green overalls in size 0000 that our baby will love. Target brand, $2.50. They also look brand new. So all in all, despite the broken heart over the Docs, I did okay.

Here are some pics of our purchases....

My beautiful new shoes... now I just need an outfit to wear them with .. lol.
Cute baby overalls!!
My bargain maternity top...

Oh.. and had to show off these. Our lovely friends Daniel & Katherine who have been living in Scotland for the past 10 months or so came home for a flying visit and we were able to catch up with them last weekend. (They've gone back now, and won't be home until possibly mid-2010!!! So glad we were able to catch up). Anyway, they brought back these cute little gifts for our bubby. A 'Scotland' bib, complete with tartan trim, scotch thistle & scottish terrier & Loch Ness Monster Slippers!!!!! Too cute, lol.

three years

Three years ago today, I walked down the aisle in a beautiful white dress, on the arms of my mum and dad, towards the love of my life, and became his wife!

In some ways, it's like I can't remember a day when I wasn't married to Peter, but in others that day seems like yesterday!

I love every day of being married to Peter; he is my best friend, my soulmate, the love of my life. He looks after me so amazingly, he is so caring and considerate and kind- everything I had always imagined that my husband would be.

Our marriage is just so... comfortable! We never (well rarely) argue, and never over anything important. I have never gone to bed angry at my husband, nor him with me. We talk about everything, and never have any uncomfortable silences or awkward moments. He's my best mate in the world!

I love him because he looks after me and adores me, he helps out with housework, washes up every night, makes me breakfast when I'm on prac, cooked me dinner when I had "morning" sickness, he loves my family and has become such a part of it, and I can't wait to see him as a Papa when our little one arrives in January.

Pete, I love you babe, this has been the best three years of my life- and I'm looking forward to waking up next to you every day for the rest of our lives. Thank you for being the man that you are, and I'm so proud of you and all that you've achieved. You are exactly the kind of husband that I want our sons to be, and our daughters to be married to. I love you so much!

Cute kids

Setting the scene: I'm on playground duty in year 1-3 playground area, when 3 little girls walk up to me very shyly...

Little Girl 1: You ask her!

Little Girl 2: No, you ask!

Little Girl 3: I'll ask... Excuse me, are you preg-a-nent?

Me: Um... yes I am!

LG 3: (Starts to rub my tummy, nodding at friends as if to say it's okay to touch!) Are you having a boy or a girl?

Me: I'm not sure, I'll have to wait until it's born to find out! (awkwardly holds folder in front of tummy to try and stop the rubbing)

LG3: Oh, ok... How long are you here for?

Me: I'll be here for 3 weeks.

LG3: Oh good! That means you'll be able to tell us what it is!

Me: I won't have the baby by then! I have to wait for another four months!

LG3: (Very disappointed). Oh. (Looks at friends, gives tummy another quick rub, grabs their hands.. ) Well I hope it all goes okay!

Too cute....
