A Peek At My Week

Hello from the weary traveller. We are finally back in Queensland, finally back at home, and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight!

Here is this week’s offering of A Peek At My Week!

Jan Week 2

This was our last week of our wonderful WA holiday, and saw us taking in a few more wineries at the beautiful Margaret River and making special memories with our very awesome WA family. Peter and I also went on our first date in a very long time (San Churros for dinner, YUM!). We had a road trip to Geraldton – the furthest North we have travelled in WA thus far – and lapped up the hospitality of the Geraldton Bumas.

Finally, yesterday, it was time to say goodbye to all of our Perth family, and our Perth holiday. I definitely was fighting back tears as I kissed my Oma one last time, and as we waved at the assortment of cousins and aunties and uncles who accompanied us to the airport.

We had such a wonderful holiday, I only wish we could have had just a few more days to spend with the family.

If you use Instagram (or even if you don’t!) I would love it if you would join in with this little meme, and share a peek at your week too! You can use the free software from Picasa to create a collage really easily, and just add the link for your post to the linky below!

Carnival of Flowers

We have lived in this town for nearly four years, and we have never been to a carnival of flowers. So we decided, since we were going to be home while this one was on, this would be the year. We decided to head down today, because the rest of the weekend is going to be super busy.

Unfortunately our camera batteries died, so I didn’t get as many photos as I would have liked, but I got a few lovely ones of the botanic gardens section of Queens Park. They were so gorgeous!

carnival 00015 carnival 00004 carnival 00006 carnival 00008 carnival 00010We went into the Flower Food and Wine festival too. It was pretty good. The flower exhibitions were fantastic. I was so inspired by the creativity of some of the arrangements.

The wine… well I wasn’t really in the mood, and the few I tasted were reasonably mediocre. I hate that.

The food.. again okay. There wasn’t enough yummy gourmet stuff… I think the only thing on offer to taste was olives, and I’m not a huge olive fan. The food and wine festival that we went to a few months ago was far better on both the food and the wine.

The entertainment was pretty good. Mayana quite enjoyed the visiting Korean dancers and drummers. Well, the drummers mostly. While they entertained her, she entertained the rest of the crowed, by clapping, bouncing, stomping her feet (she was standing up on the chair next to me), singing/yelling and laughing throughout the performance. Let’s just say she had many, many fans.

It was a good day, and we’re thinking of heading back out tomorrow to watch the parade..

Food, wine, arts and family

Today was a really lovely day.

After church (which was really good today), we spontaneously decided to head out to Hampton (just over 1/2 an hour away) for the annual Food, Wine & Arts festival.

I have decided I quite like a Sunday drive.

Mayana slept for most of the drive, and Pete and I chatted and held hands *sigh* .

The festival was lovely.. had a country market feel to it. Lots of little stalls with beautiful food, and wine tasting. Music being performed, people doing art demonstrations, entertainment.

We both really enjoyed it. Pete had Mayana in the Tomy sling, facing out, which she really loves. We can barely ever take more than two steps without being stopped and asked how old she is, told how tiny she is (*rolls eyes* – this can be hard to hear some days), and just being generally clucked over. She is a really, really, ridiculously good looking baby, even if I say so myself.

We tasted so much yummy food – jams and chutneys, gourmet muesli, oils, honey, fruit, breads, pestos, and even gourmet vinegar! (we bought one of those… and apple vinegar, beautiful can’t wait to use it on salads!) We also tasted a variety of semi-local wines, and some fruit ports and apple products – my favourites were probably the plum port and the jonothan apple and ginger juice… mmm

It was so nice to be walking around, the three of us, enjoying our surroundings and each other.

On the way home, we stopped at the Chocolate Cottage for afternoon tea. The Chocolate Cottage is a lovely place to visit.. has great food and drinks, and chocolate of course, but my favourite thing about it, is that it’s set on a beautiful grassy piece of property (the kind of grass that begs you to take your shoes off) with an incredible view. I love it! Peter had a ‘Pure Hot Chocolate’ (hot milk served with a mound of chocolate buttons, which you melt into it to your preferred strength) and I went back to my childhood and had a lemonade ice-cream spider.. yum! Mayana had a breastfeed, and eyed off my spider. She was totally wishing that spoon was heading her way!

The only unfortunate thing of the entire day, was that we were having so much fun, I completely neglected to take any photos…
