When the Sun Shines…

Holidays so far have been mostly full of rainy days, so when the sun decided to make an appearance on Monday, we decided to make the most of it.

Mayana has been wanting to ride her bike since we’ve been home, so before she had her sleep I promised her that if the sun was still out when she woke up, we could go to the park for a bike ride. The moment her eyes popped open, she was ready to go… and so off we went!

We went to Queens Park, where the Carnival of Flowers had just finished. The gardens were just beautiful, and I went a little wild with taking photos. I love taking flower photos.

September 2010Eventually Mayana got sick of her Mama stopping every few seconds to take photos, and we went for a lovely long walk, enjoying the sunshine and each other’s company. And the playground of course!  IMGP5917IMGP5922

Love these days…

Under the Sea!

Last night we went to a uni friend’s 21st birthday party. It was good fun, and so great to catch up with our mates and compare Internship stories…

Plus, we got to dress up! It was an under the sea theme, and Mayana and I went as mermaids. Pete got really creative and wore boardies, a rashie and a snorkel mask.  IMGP5814 IMGP5820IMGP5821

I’m gonna miss these guys!!

I’m sooo my daughter’s favourite person right now

Even moreso than usual. Why? Because of this:

IMGP5751 The awesome owl I crocheted for her. You might remember me saying this before, but she’s totally into owls at the moment, so when I saw a friend had made one of these, I got the pattern and got hooking straight away.

As soon as I finished the eyes, she knew what it was going to be. And when I finally got the stuffing and and stitched up the top, the look on her face was absolutely priceless….

IMGP5746 See? She ran around and showed it to Papa, Nana, Pop, and all three of the dogs, and hasn’t let go of it since. She fell asleep clutching it around the neck.

IMGP5748 I’m pretty proud of how it turned out, and Mayana’s reaction to it has totally made my day.

Just call me Super-Mummy.

Five Years

On Friday, the 10th of September, we celebrated five years of wonderful wedded bliss.

The day started by Pete kissing me goodbye at about 6.30am, as he headed off to school to go and help at the district interschool sports competition. Romantic huh?

So our time together didn’t really start until he got home at about 4.30 in the afternoon. Nana and Pop had decided to go spend the weekend over in the shed, so we had the house to ourselves which was very lovely of them.

We had a very nice evening just hanging out, we ate Nachos and Tim Tams, watched movies, and just enjoyed being together. It was truly lovely.

I gave Peter his gift, but mine still hasn’t arrived yet… which to me is cool, it just extends the celebration a little. I got pretty clever with Pete’s gift. The ‘modern’ traditional gift for the 5th wedding anniversary is silverware. So this is what I got for Pete: IMGP5753They’re from a little business called ‘See Sam’ (I seriously can’t recommend them highly enough) which I found through my friend Naomi. I got to choose the words I wanted, and thought that the mis-matched cutlery would add to the quirkiness of my gift.IMGP5756Peter, bless his heart, LOVES them :-)

It’s seriously crazy to think that we’ve been married for five years already. I still remember our wedding day in great detail, as if it were yesterday, but in so many ways, I feel like we’ve been together forever.

I love being married to him, and I love our marriage. We fit so well together and life together is better than I imagined. And best of all, it gets better all the time.

When we head to the coast on the weekend (school holidays whoopee!!) we’re going to have a real proper date, and at the end of the year, when the craziness of uni and moving are over, we’re hoping to have a night or two away somewhere.

So happy anniversary to us!!!

We’re Still Alive…

And busy!! We’ve just finished week two of internship, which means we’re one third of the way through… and I should know, because I spent this week teaching fractions.

Internship is great. On Friday I even got the chance to teach my class all by myself for the entire day, while my teacher was filling in for another teacher who was away. The school has cottoned on to the fact that we’re allowed to be unsupervised (being interns and all), and so are saving themselves some TRS (Teacher Relief Scheme) dollars. Yay for us! Because it’s a totally different experience being the teacher in the classroom all by yourself. And I’m proud to say that myself and the 15 kids (the class is usually bigger but some were at a sports carnival) I was in charge of all survived, and even better, we all had fun! It’s  a very big and welcome boost to my confidence.

We also celebrated our five-year wedding anniversary on Friday, but that deserves its own post.

Mayana is loving things here… surprise surprise. She’s settled herself into a routine, and her and Nana keep each other very busy. She’s growing up so fast, and being away from her for the better part of the day five days a week I’m really noticing it. Her vocabulary is expanding at a rate of knots, and she has around 100 words that she uses consistently and in context. She’s also starting to string two words together (eg. “Go away”, “No more”, “Yes please”, “Thank you”) I love it! And it sure makes life easier for Nana.

I’ve got a few piccies from the last week or so, which I thought you might enjoy :) IMGP5714 Playing on the swings in the park, when Kami, Opa & Lala came for a flying visit for Fathers Day last week.
